ricky25400 Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 Hi I own a Ford Galaxy 1.9tdi ghia on a 51 plate(mk2).Due to the recent hot weather i noticed that my cooling fans not working either on a/c side or on engine cooling.Upon further investigation found i fan unplugged and thought that was the problem as they then worked. However after plugging the said fan in found a dramatic drop in engine power.Whilst driving on motorway car would just about do 70mph but was dying on hills and would not rev above 2000 rpm unplugged fan and car immediately went back to normal tried this on a couple of occasions just to make sure same result both times.Have left fan off for now but would really like to sort it before summer sets in.Just wondered if anyone had similar problem or got any ideas. Thanks Ricky Quote

Thanks Ricky Ricky I am not a expert with the galaxy, but a couple of questions to be asked and poss someone else could help ! You say the fans are not working, but what is the temp reading on the temp gauge ? if it is normal the fan(s) won't cut in. also you say that when you plug the fan in does the fan run or not ? Bigjeeze Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 The fans will always run if the air con is on - if not then they should only come on when the temp is over the correct point. Sounds like you have some sort of wiring issue. The fault you describe sounds like MAF failure. Quote

Thanks RickyI take it the car is pretty new to you if you have just discovered this, Im guessing here I may be wrong, when you connect the fans up and run the engine are the fans running at a high speed or just a gentle speed.Just had this thought that if they were running at the high speed this may send a signal to the engine ECU to reduce power as it thinks the engine may be overheating. Would try running Vagcom with fans connected see if faults show up. As BJ said fans will run regardless of engine temperature if aircon is on and working. Quote

ricky25400 Posted April 30, 2011 Author Report Posted April 30, 2011 Hi Thanks for your reply the temp gauge never went above 90 and when you plug the fan in it they both work on the slower speed with the A/C but have not managed to get engine hot enough to check if they work on the cooling setting.
